Every analyst knows how to work with crime statistics, street intelligence, cellular analytics, facial recognition, LPR databases, and open sources, but have you thought about jail/corrections intelligence? This untapped resource is waiting to be utilized! Most tactical analysts assist in getting offenders off the streets and in custody, but that’s normally where their analysis ends. With my presentation, I hope to open analyst’s minds to include custody information that can be useful for keeping the community and law enforcement officers safe. I will cover a point system created to detect at-risk or aggressive indicators in inmates, provide examples of contraband collected in custody and how it relates to the streets, and present other types of intelligence that offenders are willing, and even unwittingly, share.
